The RX-001 Omega Gundam Was launched in U.C 0191 and used by the Earth Sphere federation in the conflict later known as the "War of Transition" The unit was piloted by Ace pilot Shiro Kazama in the first half of the war (U.C 0191-U.C 0196) Before the Unit was given to the young newtype pilot and protagonist of the Novel Series Mobile Suit Gundam:Light of Transition Gan Shore. (Shiro Piloted the unit in the Prequel Mobile Suit Gundam:Dawn of Transition)

The Omega Gundam was primarily developed by suits that where over 100 years old at the time, the suit was primarily developed from the transformation system of the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam and the Newtype Technology of the RX-93 Nu Gundam and the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam, as such the suit bears a resemblance to the Nu Gundam and the unicorn, with the Backpack of the Zeta.
